世界各地的英语——标准英语存在吗？
世界上，以英语为母语的人有3亿多，作为第二语言的也至少有3亿多。世界上五分之一人口具备相当程度的英语水平。英语是70多个国家的官方或半官方语言，而且在其它许多国家起着非常重要的作用。除了常见的英国英语（British English）和美国英语（American English），我们来看看还有哪些英语吧？
1，澳大利亚和新西兰英语
（Australia and New Zealand English）
澳大利亚英语和新西兰英语的词汇非常相似，均含欧洲定居者到来之前就已存在于该地的数百种语言的词汇,如Alcheringa(澳大利亚土著神话中的梦幻时代)和haka（毛利伴歌战舞）。又如代表新西兰本身的毛利语名称Aotearoa，该词在国际上的使用逐渐增加，译文作“白云绵绵之地”。
The vocabularies of Australian and New Zealand English are very similar. Both include words taken fromthe hundreds of languages that existed in these countries before the time of the European settlers. Examples are Alcheringa and haka, or indeed the Maori name for New Zealand itself (Aotearoa). This isbeing used increasingly in international contexts. The translation is “the land of the long white cloud”.
2， 加拿大英语
（Canadian English）
加拿大英语一直受到美国英语和英国英语的双重影响。在加拿大，美国英语和英国英语的拼写均可使用。
Canadian English has been influenced by both British English and American English. In Canada both British and American spellings are used.
3，非洲英语
（English in Africa）
英语是当今非洲大陆唯一使用最广泛的语言。并在州内不同地区产生了不同的变体，包括东非英语和西非英语。每一种变体都有其特有的词汇，其中包括当地习俗、食物等方面的词汇。
English is today the African continent's single most widely used language. several different varieties havedeveloped in the different regions of the continent. These include East African English and West AfricanEnglish. Each of these has its own characteristic vocabulary, which includes words of customs, food, etc.
4，南亚英语
（English in South Asia）
长期以来，英语一直是南亚重要的口头和书面表达语言，既单独使用，也和印地语、乌尔都语还有其他语言混合使用。该地区的标准语通常称为印度英语，但许多词汇都通用于这个次大陆的其他国家。当然许多起源于南亚的词汇已经成为标准英国英语的一部分。在许多英国亚裔人的影响下，这些词已为人所熟知。
English has long been an important spoken and written language in South Asia, both in its own right and asmixed with Hindi, Urdu and other languages. The regional standard is often called Indian English, but manyitems are commonly used in the other countries of the subcontinent.
Of course, many words of South Asian origin form part of standard British English. These have becomefamiliar because of the influence of the large number of people of Asian origin in Britain.
5, 东南亚英语
（English in South-East Asia）
尽管该地区并未出现独立的标准英语变体，英语在马来西亚等国作为一种交流的语言仍起着非常重要的作用。在新加坡，英语是四种官方语言之一，来自这个地区的词汇包括一些当地产品的名称，如热带水果mangosteen（山竹）等和一些特有的英语词汇用法，比如，shoplot（商店占地面积）等。
Although no standard variety of English has emerged from this region, English is very important as alanguage of communication in countries such as Malaysia. In Singapore it is one of the four officiallanguages. Word from this area include the names of some local products, for example tropical fruits(mangosteen), and there are also distinctive uses of English words (shoplot).
英语是当今世界使用最为广泛的语言，由于母语干扰（mother tongue interference），各个地区的英语变体都有自己的当地特色，因此所谓的标准英语其实不存在。我们现在所学的英语一般为英国英语（BritishEnglish）和美国英语（American English），这也是最为大家所熟知的两种英语。有时候，由于英国和美国英语之间词汇等用法不一样，英美两国人交流时也会出现很多误会。
例如, “pants” 在英式英语中指“内裤”，在美式英语中则指“长裤”。如果一个美国人称赞一个英国人裤子很好看的话，他可能会说：“Nice pants!” 但是，听到这句话的英国人则不一定会很开心，因为在英国，英国人把“长裤”叫做“trousers”，“pants” 是 “内裤”。
